Withdraws support of Jerry Amante in favor of conservative Wagner
Irvine, California — Senator Mark Wyland, who represents Orange and San Diego Counties, has announced his support of conservative Don Wagner for the Republican nomination for the 70th Assembly District. Chuck DeVore, the incumbent, is running is seeking the GOP nomination to challenge liberal Sen. Barbara Boxer in November.
"Don Wagner has proven himself to conservatives in Orange County as an activist and as a leader," said Wyland. "It is no longer good enough to be in the right place at the right time. We need legislators who will stand up and be counted and there is no question that Don Wagner is that kind of guy. We need Don in Sacramento if we are going to break the stranglehold of special interests on our state government."
Wyland previously supported Jerry Amante but has withdrawn his support in favor of Wagner.
"When Mark entered the State Assembly in 2001, he did so with an open mind about working with majority Democrats to find solutions to the problems facing our state," said Wagner. "He quickly realized that Democrats don't care at all about reform or solutions; they care about power and taking care of their special interest friends. Mark has become one of the strongest conservative voices in Sacramento and I promise to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him to fight, waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars."
Don Wagner and his wife, Megan, and their three children live in Irvine. He is a graduate of UCLA and the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Don has been elected to three consecutive terms on the Board of Trustees of the South Orange County Community College District, and currently serves as the Board's president. Don was a founder of the Orange County chapter of the Federalist Society, a nationwide organization of 40,000 conservative lawyers, law students, and scholars dedicated to preserving the rule of law from activist courts.
