Don Wagner Emerges As Leading Candidate For 70th Assembly DistrictSunday, March 28, 2010 |
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA – With just over one month before absentee ballots are mailed to California voters, Don Wagner has emerged as the front runner in the race to replace Assemblyman Chuck DeVore who is running for U.S. Senate.
Don's leadership in the community and involvement with conservative causes throughout Orange County has earned him broad-based support and an army of grassroots supporters. Early front runner, Jerry Amante has since seen his fundraising dwindle. After raising $115,000 in 2009, he has brought in only $9,000 in 2010. Additionally, many of his supporters have withdrawn their support and endorsed Wagner, including Senator Mark Wyland and Assemblyman Chris Norby.
Wagner also leads all the candidates in cash-on-hand. While Wagner has $121,000 in the bank, Amante has just $17,000. Newcomer Steven Choi, who recently moved into the district to run, has $112,000 in the bank.
"I'm humbled and honored at the outpouring of support of conservative voters who understand the importance of sending an ally to the Assembly to fight for their values," stated Wagner. But, he went on to say, "I don't take the support I currently enjoy for granted. I need to continue to work hard in order to win the nomination and the election in November."
Wagner campaign manager, Scott Voigts, added, "I encourage anyone who wants to ensure we send Don Wagner to the Assembly to contact me directly to either make a financial contribution or volunteer to help Don's effort." Voigts can be reached at 949-633-3885 or scottv1@cox.net.
