Orange County Education Leaders Endorse WagnerFriday, May 14, 2010 |
Irvine, California – A who's who of Orange County's top education leaders have announced their endorsement of conservative Don Wagner for the 70th Assembly District. Wagner, himself a long time elected education leader, serves as the president of South Orange County Community College District's Board of Trustees.
Among the many educators supporting Wagner are Dr. Ken Williams, Orange County Board of Education; Dr. Alexandria Coronado, Orange County Board of Education; Tammy Bullard, Tustin Unified School District; Ken Maddox, Capistrano Unified School District; Matt Harper, Huntington Beach High School District; Phil Yarbrough, Rancho Santiago Community College District; Alexia Delgianni, Orange Unified School Board; William Evers, former Under Secretary of Education; and John Shanahan, creator of Hooked on Phonics.
"Don is an outstanding education leader. As president of the South Orange County Community College District, he has helped the community colleges stay financially solvent during these tough budget years," said Dr. Alexandria Coronado, president of the Orange County Board of Education. "He worked very hard to expand enrollment while keeping fees down and he has balanced the budget every year. We need his leadership in Sacramento."
"California's education system was once the envy of the world but, unfortunately, special interests have put their needs ahead of our children," said Wagner. "We must make sure our teachers have the tools in the classroom to provide our young people with the education they deserve to compete in a global economy. In the Assembly, I will fight to make sure that we get our priorities right."
Under Don's leadership, the South Orange County Community College District has thrived. Don has balanced every budget, paid off all debt, built critical new classroom space for a growing enrollment, and done it all without new taxes or bonds. The South Orange County Community College District is among the very healthiest financially in the state thanks to the commonsense conservative budgeting principles Don has insisted on, and will fight for in Sacramento.
Don Wagner and his wife, Megan, and their three children live in Irvine. He is a graduate of UCLA and the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Don has been elected to three consecutive terms on the Board of Trustees of the South Orange County Community College District, and currently serves as the Board's president. Don was a founder of the Orange County chapter of the Federalist Society, a nationwide organization of 40,000 conservative lawyers, law students, and scholars dedicated to preserving the rule of law from activist courts.
